With the announcement of nVidia’s nForce chipset, the mighty VIA looked like it was in quite a bit of trouble…. As always though, it all depends on the applications that you run and whether they will be able to take advantage of the new speed increases.
Let’s start with Sandra first off: When the KT chipset was eventually released, it was sund with quite a bit of disappointment. So what of this new chipset? MSI have made a name for themselves by producing inexpensive and highly reliable motherboards that continually manage to perform well.
Windows 98, while having little testing on this motherboard, seems to be OK. The problem exists under Windows too, but not to the same extent. I don’t know whether it’s the test configuration since other reviews of this board seem to have great performance and there may very well be issues running the KTA on the test setup souund using here. The answers at first glance appears to be very well and a resounding yes! It’s nice to see different colours being used on motherboard PCB’s to make a change from the usual green.

MSI K7T Pro2-A – motherboard – ATX – Socket A – KTA Overview – CNET
It’s essentially the same chip design as the KT, but with a much improved memory controller. Spund simple to attach your own fan, but it’s always nice to see these things as standard.
KT has been soundly trounced by AMD in the performance stakes. What was the best tech product of ? The odd niggling aspect of the design is there, but nothing to make you discard it completely. So what can we draw from the following numbers? POV-Ray mzi plenty of data from main memory to the CPU and back to perform its intensive calculations required to render our test scene. Thanks to The Overclocking Store. Of course, this board isn’t perfect, there are a few things I would have liked to have seen done like removing the AMR and dropping in an extra PCI slot.
It’s certainly eye catching, that’s for sure.
MSI K7T266 Pro2-A – motherboard – ATX – Socket A – KT266A
Taking a look at the picture of the motherboard and starting at the top, we can see that the ATX connector is to the left of the CPU socket, right in the corner. The indicators are located right next to the audio and multimedia ports and as well, on the PC-to-PC USB bracket so they can be viewed from the outside of the case.
A couple of BIOS tweaks and a general going over and that should kt7266 that. Apart from that we see nothing unusual here.
Sandra Memory Bandwidth Benchmark 9 x But what do we get over the KT? Performance on the MSI never dropped below the performance of the KG7-RAID when the performance issues had been ironed out so we can say with confidence that it’s faster than that board.
